and today I’m with John to talk about PCR right ? No Julien we’re not
gonna talk about PCR today OK so let’s go ! So John you have a molecular detection
system which is not PCR can you tell us what it is exactly please ? the 3M molecular detection system as you said is not based on PCR it uses an advanced
technology for DNA amplification that’s called “LAMP” : loop mediated
isothermal amplification So what that means is that the DNA from a
pathogen cell is being amplified at a constant temperature continuously. What’s the benefits of such a technology compare to classic PCR ? This technology has a number of benefits one it gives us very rapid sensitive and
specific detection in real time we’re actually using a different DNA
polymerase compared to what’s used in PCR that’s very tolerant to typical
compounds or substances that can inhibit molecular reactions like PCR, very
robust and reliable. What’s about the protocol because usually with molecular detection system can be tricky but
what’s the extraction step the preparation of the sample with the 3M
solution ? So this is one of the additional benefits of using the LAMP technology because it’s very robust it enables us to have a very simple
protocol that doesn’t require complicated extraction or preparation
steps like a lot of PCR systems so all of the test salmonella, STEC, E.coli, Listeria : two transfers of 20 mL (for lysis) and 20 mL (of lysed sample to reagent tubes), which are loaded into instrument run them
all at the same time for real-time results during the run positives in
little us 10 minutes and then your negative results will happen at the end
of the run for most tests 60 minutes Listeria 75 minutes. So today what
kind of solution do you have I mean what can of system
what kind of kits do you offer to the market ? So for 3M molecular
detection system we offer kits for a full range of pathogens for Salmonella,
Listeria spp., Listeria monocytogenes, E.coli O157, Campylobacter (primarily for
poultry), chronobacter species (primarily for infant formula) and then our
newest assays are the STEC assays specifically for the new STEC assays
the time to result is as little as 10 hours for beef then we’ve
also validated that for produce and dairy for next day a littles 18 hours
we’ve just received an AOA PTM on our STEC assays. I saw your system is
really small now you say that the extraction is really easy, what is
your target ? You target the small customer having a small bench or can you
also address the big ones ? we can address all ranges of customers as you said the
instrument very small footprint like one of the smallest that are offered in the
industry solid state instrument can fit in
virtually any lab but not just for small customers small labs our system is very
high throughput so in that small instrument you can actually run 96 tests
96 tubes and you can connect four instruments to run together at the same
time to one computer so even the largest labs that are running ultra-high volume
can use the molecular detection system and have you know very high level of
productivity. When you we are talking about large customer we are usually
talking about automation of the extraction even if yours is really
simple I know you did announcement lately, what is it ? 3M just
announced a partnership with Hamilton company for a fully automated system to
complement our molecular detection system. So this is bench top
automation so those sample prep steps that I that I described the transfers
the heating and the cooling will happen inside this enclosed system so it takes
the operator out they can focus on more valuable things high throughput
automation and then from there you would just take
your tubes put them in the instrument and run so complete
automation for the molecular detection system. Can we expect in the near future
to have this MDS system inside the Hamilton ? that’s my wish. Is it possible or not ? You know anything is possible, we’ll keep you
updated as we progress. Right now the Hamilton system our partnership is for
the United States. The instrument is being sold in service through Hamilton and then we’re looking at expanding that and offering through other
