  1. As shown, statins inhibit the intracellular HMG CoA Reductase. That results in depletion of intracellular cholesterol synthesis. This in turn increases the uptake of circulatory LDL resulting in decrease in blood LDL level. So why does physicians advise testing blood cholesterol level when statin work intracellularly??

    Secondly, as you said cells use either way of cholesterol synthesis and cholesterol accumulation is toxic, will the excess cholesterol from incoming LDL not become toxic?
